Instructor Training

+RYA Dinghy Instructor

This course is an intensive training course that leads to an assessment by an RYA Coach / Assessor. The course covers all aspects of the RYA syllabus and will provide excellent training for those wishing to teach sailing. You must be 16 or over and be able to demonstrate sailing ability as detailed in RYA G14 publication. You must also hold a valid 8 hour first aid certificate, RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification and RYA 'Safe and Fun' Safeguarding course (online). RYA Membership is also required. The pre-assessment day can be booked separately or combined with the full course.

+RYA First Aid

This course will give a working knowledge of First Aid to sailors and skippers. It satisfies the requirements of the RYA for Instructor Level First Aid Certificates.

+BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue Training

BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue Training assessment provides safety awareness and rescue skills to enhance water competence. This is a prerequisite for taking BCU Coach Awards at Level 1 and 2. You must have achieved the standard of BCU 2 Star competence to attend this course. You must also be able to swim in normal paddling clothing suitable for the prevailing condition and be a minimum of 14 years of age. A first aid certificate is not a pre requisite, however the holding of a first aid certificate is strongly recommended for all paddlers. Please call the Centre for further information.

+BCU / UKCC Level 1 Coach Award

As a Level 1 Coach you can assist higher level coaches, deliver coaching sessions under their supervision and deliver taster sessions. Before you become a Level 1 Coach you will need to register with your Home Nation Association (eg Canoe England). You are required to be 16 years or over, hold a BCU 2 Star (only if you are opting for a boat based award) and a BCU FSRT. Please call the Centre for information.

+MT.UK Climbing Wall Award (CWA) Training

The CWA covers the supervision and management of activities such as bouldering, the teaching and coaching of basic movement skills and roped climbing (excluding the teaching of leading). +RYA Powerboat Instructor

The Powerboat Instructor is a competent, experienced powerboater who has been trained to teach powerboating up to Level 2 under the supervision of the Principal or Chief Instructor of a recognised centre. Candidates should have logged at least five seasons' experience of powerboating, preferably in a range of boat types and sizes. For those who use powerboats as an integral part of their normal full-time occupation, this period is reduced to one season.

Candidates must hold the RYA's Level 2 powerboat certificate and a valid first aid certificate. No candidate under the age of 16 will be accepted for training. This course includes a skills assessment day on the first day of the course. Details can be found on the RYA website.
